OPEN A NEW DAY IN YOUR LIFE SPAN / OUR STORY

Article text
Research in the US show that life cycle patterns change when people reach the age of 50 - 55. Market hours (time spent outside the home) and home hours tend to be relatively stable early in the life cycle but later market hours seem to drop sharply and home hours increase. This pattern can, in other words, be expected but this is exactly what we wanted to avoid. Instead we decided to build new values into our lives, find space and more time for ourselves and each other and yet feel empowered to play an important role in working life, too. As experienced senior members for some time on-wards. We are extremely happy that we are breaking away from "the expected" pattern because our lives will be enriched with so much more activities and memories that can be recorded for our children and grand-children for them to read about later. I am ever so grateful to my wife for her courage and for being such a clairvoyant person to want to alter course.

Here is what we did

Late in our life we opted for new hobbies like photographing, cooking and classical music. We then decided to leave native Finland, bid farewell to our children (friends and relatives alike), sold our home, placed the remaining goods in a storage and moved abroad (first Andalucia) to a rented accommodation. Into a new world with different habits and traditions, a strange language but with the opportunity to explore, learn and gain insight and experience. To divert from the expected, NOW, as in ten years the chance would have been gone.

We brought along our hobbies that where the supportive tools for our change. PhotoHiking around Andalucia (later Scania) gave us the chance to learn to know the region, its traditions and history as well as culture and nature. The material produced was converted into a photographic website, a travel blog, a photographic yearbook and also special photobooks that were entered for competitions. Our photobook “Andalucia Our Way” was nominated travel book of the year by Ifolor, Finland, in 2014. This ended the first chapter of our new lives.

The second chapter was opened by a decision to move back north, to Scania, Sweden. Our furniture was brought in from the storage in Finland and my wife found an exciting job in a totally new field where she could excel. We continued our photographic production and produced, in January 2015, the first book to become commercialized; SCANIA COUNTY – Nature’s Diversity & OpenSkies©. The book, that we are very proud of, has now also entered a competition in the USA (the Foreground competition).

This is where we stand – Our proposal to you

January 2015, 1,5 years after leaving native Finland, forms a milestone in our lives whatever way we look at it. Our time in Scania produced quality regional photographic material from flack cultural landscapes to gorgeous shorelines with its sandy beaches and more remote places like Sweden’s southernmost wilderness area in North-Eastern Scania. Areas some of which are unknown to many. The end result, our book SCANIA COUNTY - Nature's Diversity & OpenSkies is leading us further into the fascinating world of photography.
